Lore
This Roleplay group takes place in a world called Mereldia. Humankind has discovered magic for themselves when they were at the stand of the medieval age. Unfortunately, this magic started to drive them insane and eventually lead to their and Mereldia's destruction. To rebuild the almost destroyed world, the six high gods, which are the elements themselves (light, darkness, fire, water, earth and air) then sent immortal creatures called fae to Mereldia to let them rebuild it. They served as leaders and idols for the witless animals and so it came, that after over a millennium the animals have evolved so far that they could speak and act for themselves. With that, they reached the level of intelligence the humans once held, though they could evolve faster through the influence of the fae, who were regarded by the mortals as gods. It was also through the gods' influence that the inhabitants of Mereldia gained longer life spans which slowly adjusted themselves to be the same for all species. All sentient animals now reached adult age with the age of 8 and could get up to 80-90 years old.
But the time of the gods eventually came to an end. 813 years ago from today, the gods started a war against each other. They had been brought to spread peace and to rebuild the world, but by spending so much time on mortal grounds, they had turned greedy. They wanted more than the lands they each had been assigned to. They started to fight each other. This war cost many lives, mainly those of innocents and lasted for over five years. Eventually, the six high gods stepped in, taking away the lives of those who proved themselves unworthy of their gift by starting to take lives as they pleased. The ones who did not partake in the war remained, but it was not many. In order to prevent a new war, the gods disbanded them from their lands, they now were free to roam.
The people (sentient animals) who were not used to living without a leader were left to lead themselves. Everything went very chaotic at first, but eventually, things settled down.
READ THE FOLLOWING PAGES TO GET AN EVEN MORE DETAILED, ILLUSTRATED BACKGROUND STORY:
Many people walked different paths from then on. Some went into deadly territory and built cities there, others just ran away from discrimination and found a place they could belong and even others just started to become active now...
This all happened 807 years ago. In this time cities and whole civilisations have formed. But also something even more notable: the mortals have found their way to magic just as the humans once have. The one thing that has erased mankind is now spreading its roots again. Will the story repeat or will there be a way of escape this time? Only time will tell, and you can help to write the story.

Quick Facts About Mereldia
â—— the technology and mentality of the world (especially in the cities) is the one of the medieval age (11th-13th century)
â—— while the language that is spoken and the script that is used is the same everywhere in Mereldia, different places still have different accents or dialects.
â—— Your character will speak in the accent of a place they either stayed at for very long or where they chose to just speak it because it sounds funny (we'll leave that up to you).
â—‹ on a side note: the language that is spoken does not have a name! Since there is only one language a name is not necessary. But the language is not English! We just kind of translate everything our characters say into English so that we can understand them. Simple as that!
â—— city characters always wear cloaks! Not wearing a cloak is seen as uncivilised and would come close to running around naked
â—— characters from Koruna will own a Raccardi slave
â—— all people (sentient animals) are omnivores! This is due to the gods' influence too. So horses could also eat meat and wolves can also eat plants, for example.
â—— the cities you are able to join (Monabur, Santugan and Nordberg) are all three huge. About the size of New York City, each of them! When also not THAT crowded.
â—— Eriwon consists of a lot of countrysides and therefore many small towns. The only big city that also comes close to the size of the other big cities in Mereldia is the capital Wonsu
â—— food is grown outside of the big cities but cannot get imported from other countries. For example, you can't buy food grown in the North Lands when you are in Monabur.
â—— demons and monsters are widely known and feared. People are always paranoid about meeting them or half-demons. They are not very common in cities because of this. The definition of "demon" in the world of Mereldia is not the same as in our world. Demons in Mereldia are immortal creatures that were once created by the gods (or are descendants from those first demons). Whether they are "evil" or "good" depends. Most of them are of an evil nature.
â—— all people in Mereldia (especially those of the cities) are superstitious.
â—— dragons do exist in Mereldia and they are both respected and feared. It is said that they already existed when humans still roamed Mereldia and therefore are even more powerful. They are gigantic beasts that should not be messed with. They are a rare sight, though. Usually, they hide in the mountains. They are so rare that most people even believe them to be just legends. (aka. your character will NEVER meet a dragon)
â—— the knowledge that there was once a sentient species in Mereldia that went extinct is widely known, but the word "human" is only known by very few, so it is never mentioned. The lost sentient species is usually just referred to as "the ancient ones".
â—— while all people are omnivores, it still is forbidden to eat sentient beings! This would count as cannibalism, including if the person was of another species.
â—— black markets exist in all cities where rare magic items are sold. Those are usually fed with dark magic, which is why they are forbidden. Some criminals would know these places.
