Leveling

The chart below illustrates a summary of what mages are able to do at which level and it differentiates between Mortals, Caspanas and Fae, since each of them has another maximum magical potential as well as life span and therefore developes their magic differently. Keep in mind that SS-Class mages in all categories are super rare and that you will not be able to just get one by regular leveling.

The Crystals, with which you level your character, are an OUTGAME item, which means that they are not canon in the world of Mereldia. Ingame, magic is strengthened by training relentlessly.

Please keep in mind that regardless of what age your character is and how much training they have endured in their life already, that mortals start at the Beginner Level and Caspanas that have finished their three years of training start at an Advanced Level. Where fae start always depends on their age and how much they had the possibility to train, but also here they can only, at most, start at an Advanced Level.

No character is allowed to start at an S-Class or SS-Class level! If you want your character to achieve those levels, you have to work your way up there.

Mortals

They have a life span of about 70-80 years and therefore only can tap so far into their magic. They develope the slowest out of the three and are able to achieve the least.

Caspanas

The things shown above are solely things that a Caspana can do after their curse awoke. Before their curse awoke, they are a regular mortal, keep that in mind! After the awekening of the curse, they are immediately able to do what counts to the Beginner level for mortals. This is due to the magic boost they get. They then are quite fast learners when it comes to developing their magic, but they still are secondary to fae.

Fae

They are the most magically gifted beings in Mereldia. Due to their immortality, they don't have to worry about being on a timer when it comes to learning things, which is why they usually take their time and work what they do out in detail. And let's not forget that they are even born with the ability to use magic. All fae are able to read a mortal's mind when looking into their eyes. This is a trait all fae have in common and which they are able to do since birth.

Beginner Level

The mage starts to get accustomed to the use of magic at first. Being at that level means that they are a born mortal. While they are able to use magic, they still have to at first find their way to use it. Meditation is often a good method as well as the right tutorage. For that, so called "magic finding classes" are held by Magic Academies. They cost a pretty penny for those who only want to be mages. Those who want to become soldiers get these classes for free. Alternatively one can learn the early beginnings also from a parent if they happen to be a mage. Since mages are more rare than common, this is an unusual occurrence though.

Around level 20 the character has figured out their element and is able to manipulate it very faintly. With that, they are allowed to take the entrance exam to a Magic Academy, which tests them in levitation and a slight element manipulation. Those abilities are then improved, but still are too weak to count as advanced yet. Only when surpassing level 30, they can move on to the advanced classes. This is when element manipulation can be maintained for two minutes at a time.

●  simple element manipulation (very weak) - exhaustion hits quickly

●  simple telekinesis (lifting light objects) - exhaustion hits after 5 minutes of lifting something non-stop

Advanced Level (for Mortals)

The mage now is getting advanced classes in either a Magic Academy or the Soldier training. They learn to manipulate their element better, as well as to improve on basic skills like levitation. They start to learn enchantment spells when they have become a little more accustomed to the now harder classes. Once they have grasped the very basics of enchantment magic, they start to learn what is commonly referred to "elemental control". This is the ability to create an element (the one the mage is talented in of course) out of thin air, so to say. While so far the mage used their magic to manipulate an already existing, "wild" element, they now have to create said element with their magic. While it may look similar from an outside perspective, it is something completely different whether someone uses an element or creates it. The created element then is made up of the user's magic, draining them a whole bunch of it. A lot of practice is needed to let the element sustain for longer. Since most mages never make it to an S-Class level, the most the common mages reaches is an elemental control of their element for about 10 minutes of non-stop usage.

●  advanced element manipulation - exhaustion hits depending on the stamina and level (usually after 20 minutes of non-stop using)

●  advanced telekinesis (lifting more heavy objects) - exhaustion hits after 45 minutes of lifting something non-stop (hits quicker when objects are heavy)

●  elemental control - instead of manipulating an element, a mage has the full control of it now and can also let it appear at will and does not need it to be there in order to use it - exhaustion hits depending on the stamina and level (control does take more magic and therefore lets exhaustion hit faster than simple manipulation)

●  enchantment spells - don't take away stamina when an object is enchanted. An enchantment on the mage themselves does constantly drain on the magic though (like, for example, an illusion spell); exhaustion (when applied to oneself) depends on stamina and level (usually 1-3 hours). How long the enchantment on an object will last also depends on the level. When first starting the learn enchantment spells, the enchantments will only last a few minutes. The more it is trained, the longer it will hold.

S-Class Level for Mortals / Advanced Level for Caspanas

When a mage achieves these skill levels, they are already up in the little 2% of mages who actually manage to become S-Class mages. Everything they already learned previously now gets improved even further and also some other branches of magic open for them. They now are magically strong enough to manage invisibility spells for example or, when one is a light mage, even teleportation. The master-disciple though is summoning spells. Summoning things from a parallel dimension is not an easy task, so only about 10% of all S-Class mages even succeed in it. Those parallel dimensions are usually pocket dimensions that are used to store things like weapons in so that one can summon them during a battle. Stellar mages, on the other hand, can summon celestial beasts from the spirit realm to aid them in fights. Only light mages can do so, though. Usually, only the weaker beasts can be summoned since an insane amount of magic power is needed to summon the stronger ones. Almost no mortal possesses this power. Apart from pulling stuff from parallel dimensions, one can also, similar to the teleportation spell, pull objects or even people (it is recommended to not do that due to safety reasons) from where they currently are to the place the mage is. The longer the distance, the higher the amount of needed magic is.

●  full elemental control and manipulation - exhaustion hits depending on the stamina and level (30 minutes - 3 hours of non-stop using)

●  strong telekinesis - exhaustion hits after 3 hours of lifting something non-stop (hits quicker when objects are heavy)

●  strong enchantment spells - exhaustion (when applied to oneself) depends on stamina and level (usually 6-24 hours)

●  summoning spells

●  invisibility spells - only concerning the looks, not necessarily sound and smell. The presence can NEVER be hidden completely, but just dulled slightly; castable at ability levels that are almost SS-Class!

●  teleportation (for those with a talent for light magic)

SS-Class Level for Mortals / Advanced Level for Fae

If it happens that a mortal does achieve the skill to be called an SS-Class mage, then they not only have trained for several decades but also will most likely become very well known. Being of this skill level is equal to being a genius and only very talented ones can achieve it.

●  everything of the previous levels, just stronger

●  life link spells - spells that allow one to connect one's feelings with another person. In battle, this can be used to let the opponent feel the same pain one feels when being hit by them. Death is also shared through this, so it is the ultimate defence spell (based on dark magic - do not attempt!)

Beyond a Mortal's Capability

● seals - the ability to place seals on objects to prevent them to be opened/accessed/used

(S-Class level onward for Caspanas)

● exorcism rituals without the help of ingredients - usually ingredients such as certain herbs or even bones are needed to banish what does not belong from a person or object (a power foreign to the body in the middle of the ritual). An exorcism circle still has to be drawn. Most still use the ingredients to higher the chances of the ritual to succeed

● creature control - the ability to control the mind of an animal

● mind seals - the ability to place seals on memories to block them from one's mind and therefore deny access to them. This can be done to oneself but also to other people.

(SS-Class level onward for Caspanas)

● ghost barrier - the ability to set barriers that keep ghosts contained, or better said, that keep contained what is unseen by most

● invulnerablity - healing spells are a common thing, but the spell to be clearly invulnerable, is a master discipline. It does not help against iron, but other wounds, also those caused by magic, will immediately heal.

Beyond a Caspana's Capability

● size manipulation - the ability to shrink or enlarge objects or even living creatures (lasts forever when no counter-spell is cast). Can also be used on oneself.

(S-Class level onward for Fae)

● transformation spells on others - while the transformation of oneself into another creature is possible from early levels already, even though it requires talent and dedication, the transformation of another being is much more complex and difficult to master. Fae, who can use this spell, often use it to mock mortals and to transform them into another being or even into a plant or an object. Just as the transformation spell on oneself, this spell can only be broken by the caster, so the victim will stay in their transformed state when no counter-spell is spoken.

● age manipulation - While fae from nature have the ability to control their physical age, they can often only stop ageing and then, if wanted, continue to do so in either a normal or even rapid paste. But when they learn the spell of age manipulation, they can also make themselves younger again. But not only themselves. They can also use it on others, but not only to make them younger but also older. The fae who can use this spell often take fun in ageing mortals to an ancient age which they will die from rather quickly.

(SS-Class level onward for Fae)

● demon creation - a dark magic only the most skilled fae mages are able to perform is the creation of immortal beings, which are referred to as "demons" ever since the war of the gods. They have nothing to do with the sort of demons that possess people (those are called phantoms, to keep the two apart). The creation of a demon requires to split up a piece of one's own immortal soul, to give the new being life.
