FAQ

Are Independents allowed to be Caspanas?

No, because Caspanas are extremely rare outside of the Verensa Herd. Mainly because most people prefer to not die and therefore, even if they happen to be cursed, would never find out about it.

How many characters are we allowed to have?

There is no limit to how many characters you can have overall. You have to purchase a character slot at the shop, though, win it or get it gifted by an admin to be able to make another character

What is an NPC?

NPC means "Non-Playable Character" and that simply means that an NPC is a character that cannot be played alone. For example, if your character lives together with a sister, and this sister is always on your character's side, then this sister could be an NPC. Saying a few things once in a while, but all in all not playing the main role. She cannot be played alone and would be like a background character.

Can my character only have a brown cloak?

No, their cloaks can be any colour you wish! Black, brown, red, any colour you want. However, the design should not be too overly fancy, as it is a starter item. You can buy fancier things once you have enough Vend in the shop.

I see other people who have god characters. How can I get one too?

God characters were a limited-time offer. Those who generously donated 1000 points towards making this RPG a super group were given permission to make a first generation god. This option will never again be available and was a very special privilege.

Can my character be a unicorn?

Yes and no. A real unicorn - a mysterious being only being able to be seen by virgins with a mane of silver hair and a beauty unlike any other creature - is not available as a character because those beings are just way too rare. Plus, it would kinda suck to only be able to roleplay them with virgin characters. Anyway, your character can still have a horn, though this does not make them a unicorn. A deformation of the body such as a horn implies a demon heritage, so this would be your way of cheating to get a unicorn. It won't be a pure being of light and kindness, but it is as close as you can get to having a unicorn character.

Would it be possible for a normal horse and pegasus to have a pegasus foal?  Or would both parents have to be pegasi?

Yes, that is possible. It all depends on what you want. A normal horse and a pegasus can also have a wingless foal, or two pegasi too if they have normal horses in their bloodline. The wings are as genetical as everything else, but you can decide what you want to have. (we do not fuss over genetics over here)

When I joined you said that my character couldn't have magic abilities because they weren't allowed anymore or something. Can he have magic now?

Magic can be achieved through levelling up your character. A list of levels is in the magic section of this website, and keys for the six magic kinds can be purchased at the shop when the requirements are met.

Is it possible for an already-created character to switch their faction for the sake of a plot? Example: a middle-class character from a city leaving to join a wandering herd; a wanderer deciding to settle down in a city, etc.?

Yes, this is possible without complication. We once said that a change of factions costs something, but we changed our mind and made it available for free now. Just be sure to notify the group of this change so that we can sort the Reference into the right folder.

Is it still possible for members to make adoptables for the group?

Yes, that is still possible! The ones adopting the characters then just have to be either new members or members who have a character slot open (changeling necklace and/or selkie shell) As for gifting character slots when setting up adoptables, then only admins can do that. But "normal" adoptables like I just said are still possible to be made!

Let's say a foal is born in the Verensa Herd and is bearing the Caspana Curse. The foal dies by let's say a disease just a few days after they were born, and then come back to life as a Caspana. Will they just live with it, and not have a ceremony later in life, or will anything else happen?

Foals with a curse born in the Verensa Herd are usually born very healthy due to their mother also being a Caspana and therefore being able to provide enough magic for their growth and health. Even if the mare was mortal, she would get enough herbs and other things from the healers during her pregnancy to ensure that the foal is born healthy and the healers also ensure that it stays healthy.
Anyway, there is a very slim rare case of a foal really dying from an illness and having the curse. The cause for that would either be a genetical disease or an insufficient job of the healer that is caring for mother and foal. This foal would then also have been born from a mortal mare without the curse because otherwise, a genetical illness and/or another kind of illness caused by a bad supply of herbs and medicine by the healer would not be possible due to the magic (=strength) the foal gets with the mother's milk.

So if such an instance really happens (which is rare), the foal would be taken under intense care to ensure that no major catastrophes happen due to its initiation magic (a newborn foal is like a newborn baby after all). When this calmed down, it will receive a nursing tutor, something like a babysitter, that will teach it from early on how to use their magic, but it will not be involved in any rank related training. When the leader then decided that the individual has matured enough to choose their rank (this is usually around 5-7 years) then they may choose it on the following new moon. Then they will receive a new tutor that will teach them the usual rank-related magic.

But keep in mind that this is a very rare case and that the "nursing tutor" would not be a practised individual, but merely someone of one of the four ranks (most likely a healer, so that they can be around the foal at all times) who kind of wings the magic training.

This is something that happens only once in a decade or something, so be careful if you really want to choose that for a character of yours.

It usually, in roleplay groups, takes an item to change your character's design. If I wanted to change my character's leg markings and/or change their hoof colour, would that be considered small enough to go by or would that need this sort of item?

There is no way to drastically change your character's design. And with a drastic change I mean so that the character is not recognizable anymore.  This is to prevent confusion and to keep the continuity going. I mean, if you are not happy with the way you look like, you cannot change your look completely either, or at least not without some heavy chirogical measures. So if you plan to drastically change your character's design, there would need ot be a very detailed and very good reason to, so that the character themself feels that the change in their own look is necessary.
This is why we will never offer any sort of item that allows one to change a character's design.
So when you just want to make very small changes, like simplifying markings or changing the hoof color of your character, then it's okay, but everything else is not possible.

What would the offspring of a demon or fae and a Caspana be like? I think I remember seeing once that if a pegasus and Caspana crossed (when someone was asking if Caspanas could have wings, etc.) that the curse would be trumped by the pegasus's genetics and the resulting foal would not have the curse.

Basically every cross that is not between a Caspana and a Caspana or a Caspana and a Mortal will NOT have the curse, because the curse was originally laid on mortals. When the base condition of the magic (mortal magic) changes, then the curse cannot work anymore. Same goes with the body. If a fae and a mortal cross, then the offspring will be half-fae. Half faes are senstivie towards iron, which means that their body is the one of a fae. The curse needs a mortal body and transforms it into a fae body in order to revive it when the curse awakes. When the body is already fae, this cannot work. Demons are nothing else than abominations of fae. Some are sensitive towards iron, some are not. Either way, a cross between a demon and a Caspana would also have the result of a not functioning curse, because the magic would not be of "mortal" nature.

So, what are the religious views of the Verensa Herd? Do they acknowledge and worship the six high gods/the elements or are they atheists or something?

Well, I wouldn't straight up call them atheists, but it's more like they are not introduced to a religion early on in life, so they do not worship one or several gods. Some, especially those with stronger connections to cities through family or friends who live there, might believe in deities, but it depends. What comes closest to religious belief and worship is the herd itself. The leader is of course seen as the top of the herd and therefore highly respected. If it happens that an oracle is born in the herd (there are only three oracles that are reborn in new bodies after they die, but the chance of it being born a Caspana in the herd is actually very slim) it is respected as highly as the herd leader and by some might also be worshipped.

Most of the herd members are realists because what they do always serves a certain goal. They do not have much left to also care for a deity they are worshipping, though that still is possible. They are not atheists, so that they kind of believe that there is a godly power out there, but they think that this godly power might not be the kind one should worship or even hold on to for help at all.

Just how far can a Verensa Herd member go wandering if they are bored or want to take a walk or perhaps wanted to go on a quiet romantic stroll alone with their mate?

The land Derenta is surrounded by a barrier that keeps intruders from getting in and therefore enables the herd to live secluded from the outside world. Derenta itself is not just a small speck of land though, but a very large landscape. Large enough to host twenty Verensa Herds if you want (the herd has about 1200 members). So one can wander anywhere in this land but not outside the barrier (it would just mean more work for the guards and unecessary trouble).

What does the barrier around Derenta look like from the inside, and how do the members pass through it when going on missions and such?

The barrier is invisible, so that the sky (for example) looks naturally blue and stuff. A mage, though, can see a spell matrix when they concentrate (usually with closed eyes) and then they'd be able to see a thick web of spells and enchantments in the sky or where where the barrier touches the ground (it's shaped like a hemisphere). But with the naked eye it's invisible. To be able to get through you need to be guided by a guard, because otherwise you will get lost (the barrier confuses those who go near it and result in them to loose orientation so that they will turn around and cannot find Derenta). Once through, you can go your way. The barrier itself is still inivisible though. Herd members of course know roughly where it is, but only guards are able to pinpoint it and are able to go through it without a problem.

At stage 5, you can purchase a magic key and unlock a character's magic. Is there any difference if your character is already able to use magic?

When your character can already use magic, then they are either a mage, a Caspana or a fae and were accepted to the group as such. Therefore a magic key comes with them as a starter item and does not have to be purchased. It only has to be purchased when your character couldn't do magic when they were accepted to the group.
