Charactersitics

Each element has a certain nature to it that in most cases also transfers itself to the magic user of that element. Those character traits do not mandatorily always have to apply and sometimes even none of them apply, but they are still common enough to stereotype them. And always remember that the traits grow stronger, the stronger also the magic is since more magic means a stronger connection to the element.

   Light

While especially the physical elements carry specific character traits, the not physical ones also determine the personality very strongly. Light magic, as a magic of blessing, is extremely peaceful. Light mages therefore usually are very loving and helpful individuals, who can also tend to be a little shy sometimes. The more one leans to light magic, the purer their heart also is. You would never meet a total asshole who is a light mage.

   Darkness

When light brings out the best of people, then darkness brings out the worst. While dark mages also can hold on to niceties and be friendly, it is way less common for them to be so. Again it depends on how much one leans to darkness. In most cases, it is so, that dark mages (or witchers and witches, as they are also often called) are not the nicest. They tend to cynism and generally being an asshole. It can also be that they are this in only some aspects so that they generally still can be considered as nice individuals. But dark magic is corrupting and the Unseelie Court is not full of as much hatred as it is for nothing. Beware of dark magic. It is unhealthy for your attitude.

The considerably sparse physical elements are Water and Fire. While they build contraries to each other, they share the trait of not always being available to the user and therefore having to be created. Both of them are also very formable and it takes a lot of practice to get them into an individual form. Due to these similarities, the mares who use fire and water also share some personality traits, while otherwise being opposites in nature.

   Water

Water mages are said to be the most chaotic and crazy ones of the bunch. With the emphasis on crazy. They are, in contrary to other mages, next to obsessed with their element what not rarely comes with a boost of self-confidence. This has to do with the circumstance that water, in contrary to the other three physical elements, can create what feels like another world. It is not always around like earth and air are and it is not as dangerous and destructive as fire is, which makes it something very special.

The most common character traits associated to water mages are the following:

●  hard to get out of water (applies to 98% of all water mages)

●  self-confident

●  tend to brag

●  easy-going

●  adventurous

●  value their freedom very highly

●  are in harmony with nature

●  vanity

   Fire

When it comes to naming a typical hothead and/or asshole, then you can almost be sure that the name of a fire mage will fall. Due to their element, they tend to behave rather loud and wild. Usually, they do not sugarcoat stuff and like to say what's on their mind. A lot of arrogance and cynical nature also comes with it. Which does not mean that all fire mages are heartless assholes. Most just get angry easily and hate to be wrong with things. Almost all of them are poor losers, so it's easy to get into an argument with them.

The most common character traits associated to fire mages are the following:

●  sore losers

●  arrogant

●  unbearable know-it-alls

●  self-confident

●  tend to brag

●  careless

●  daring

The elements that are almost always available, are air and earth. Also they need each other to exist, which lets them share a bond. Therefore also air and earth mages share similar characteristics, though they do difference each other even more than water and fire mages do.

  Air

Air mages put a whole new meaning to sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind. There are two stereotypes coursing around.

The first stereotype is also the most known one: the silent mage.

Most people imagine a very calm and collected individuum when they hear the word air mage. Calm, with a love for the silent moments in life and a huge heart that is tolerant and accepting of everything around it.

The most common character traits associated with the silent type of air mages are the following:

●  calm and collected

●  peace-loving

●  open-minded

●  tolerant

●  loving towards any- and everything

The second stereotype could not be more different from the first one: the daredevil mage.

And sad but true, this is the actual further spread type of air mage. Give them a challenge and they take it. Those mages are daredevils in every sense of the word and often tend to try out all kinds of new things, the more dangerous and daring, the better. Also, they have an obsession with speed as much as water mages have an obsession with water. This also causes them to be very active and outgoing individuals who usually cannot sit still for very long.

The most common character traits associated with the loud type of air mages are the following:

●  loud

●  outgoing

●  obsessed with speed

●  fearless

●  love challenges

Despite those differences, it is very well possible that an air mage possesses both or even none of those traits. What most air mages, despite their personality, have in common though are the following things:

●  they have an incredibly good sense of hearing

●  they can sing very well

●  they are uncomfortable when being underground

●  they do not like forests a lot and will usually shy away from all kinds of icky plants, insects or from getting dirty in general

   Earth

The earth mages are, like the air mages, quite variable when it comes to their personality. Most are calm and collected individuums, while others even tend to be grumpy and sarcastic.

They have an incredibly strong bond with plants and the earth in general, loving to be at the core of life, so to say. They are therefore often caught wandering around forests or places of a similar richness of life and fertility.

All earth mages, without exception, usually discover their element through a diagnosis of serious clumsiness. Before being able to control it, they tend to trip over their own feet very often. This happens because gravity works for them in a different way. As well as water mages learn how to get out of the water, earth mages also learn how to keep their balance and manipulate gravity to their advantage.

The most common character traits associated with earth mages are the following:

●  stubbornness

●  fear of heights

●  a tendency to get dirty

●  patience
