 The Faerie Courts

The fae are a devious and elusive folk that does not mingle well with mortals. Their morals and ways of life are just too different to harmonize. When it comes to the Courts, then there are two: the Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court. Both consist of faeries of all kinds and the only thing that differentiates the two are their mannerisms.

The Seelie Court

Faeries of the Seelie court enjoy mischief and often play friendly pranks on mortals. While they, when angered, can be quite cruel and even kill out of a whim, will usually stay friendly and when not pleased just bring misfortune. They often try to set themselves apart from the more wicked Unseelie Court and even use bells - which cause a fairy pain and disorientation when they hear it - to keep the members of the other court at bay.

The Unseelie Court

In contrary to the Seelie Court, the faeries of the Unseelie Court and not ones you would easily get away from. They like to play pranks and cause mischief too, but their games usually end up being deadly. It is a not a secret that they find joy in torture of mortals and would often also kill them to eat them afterwards, sometimes even eating them alive. They are wicked in their ways and not to be crossed.

Each faerie race has their queen in the respective court, so that everyone is represented and has someone whose word they can heed. Usually the meetings of the queens stay court-specific, so that the queens of the Seelie Court meet on Midsummer and the queens of the Unseelie Court meet on Midwinter. A meeting of all queens from both courts only occurs on Samhain and Beltane and is always a sensitive affair.

Current Faerie Queens

Seelie Court

  • Changelings - Mórrigàn

"The Mórrigàn is powerful beyond belief and is said to even be able to see the future. She does not grant favours though and is not seen by anyone except when the court gathers. Changelings are loners, so she probably does not like company much."

Unseelie Court

  • Kelpies - Viridis |

"Ferocious and merciless as a proper leader should be and therefore more than justly fit as queen. She does not allow blasphemous behaviour like that of the Seelie, and if it does happen, then, well, let's say the traitor will not have long to live afterwards."
